Getting Started

What to expect

We know the idea of trying a CrossFit Manatee Class can be intimidating if you haven’t tried it before. So here’s what you can expect and do to be best prepared.

For a typical CrossFit Manatee Class:

  • Arrive early: Stash your stuff in our cubbies, change clothes, chit-chat with friends, and to do the prep work (look on the white board by the couch)
  • Coach Briefing: A general plan of attack, safety measures and scaling options to make sure everybody is on the same page as far as how the class will go
  • Group warm-up: Gets you ready for action
  • Foundation: Learn and practice movement skills and build strength
  • The WOD (Workout Of the Day): Where you’ll get your “cardio” on
  • Cool-down: Work on mobility and minimize soreness

For more info on how CrossFit Manatee class segments work check out these blog posts.

What to Bring to Class:

  • Wear normal gym clothes
  • Bring water (save the environment!)
  • Bring a gym towel

What to do BEFORE Class

  • Check out each day’s WOD (published the night before at 8pm) to see if you need to bring any special equipment or wear anything in particular (i.e. long socks for rope climbs, running shoes, gloves, etc.)
  • Eat a healthy snack 1-2 hours before (a banana is often good)
  • Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate
  • Chill out – Don’t forget we can scale the WOD to your needs, and we’re all here to support you
  • Notify your next of kin (KIDDING! It’s the first rule of CF: There’s no dying in CrossFit!)

What to do AFTER class

  • Eat a healthy meal within a couple hours of completing the WOD
  • Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate
  • Move & stretch if you’re stiff/sore
  • Immediately post to Facebook using lots of annoying CrossFit lingo (KIDDING! Wait…you probably WILL do this!)
